Soft Cell

Today, or more specifically this morning, we set aside as soft on activity and big on resting up from the past two intensive days. We got up when we felt like it and eventually had a delicious brunch in the Hotel restaurant. Mexican food does not disappoint.

Dan wanted to size up the local beach this afternoon so off we went on a half-hour ride for a half-hour visit. The day had grown cloudy, the beach was resoundingly in off-season mode, the shore was littered with washed up seaweed, and we were the only visitors in sight.

Our presence nevertheless served as a signal to a couple of vendors who quickly appeared wheeling their display carts to us over the sand. If ever these fellows had slow days of business, today must have been the very button on the cap. A few dogs appeared also, one of which made friends with Dan.

The photo below shows the entrance and exit to the beach ...

We returned to a Matamoros shopping center where I purchased a new chip for an older Samsung cell phone I brought along and subscribed to Mexican phone service. This was an incredibly long drawn-out affair which would have been much longer and much more drawn out had not Heather been there to serve as interpreter. Her Spanish is more than adequate to get things done. On the drive home we passed a parade. In the three days we've been here we've seen four parades all related to "The Virgin of Guadalupe." Much work to be done here.
