From Londonderry to Matamoros

Our day started at 4:15 am when the sound of a strumming harp emanated from my cell phone, signaling the start of a long but successful day of travel. Robin drove us to Manchester airport where we boarded a propeller plane that would take us to Newark, New Jersey. Yes, I said propeller plane. Airline companies still have them in service. They groan, grind and growl but they can still ply the sky, even a dark, belligerent, turbulent one such as we entered. The plane shook and shuddered, lifted and sank, swayed from side to side, and bounced off the buffeting winds. But the propellers spun and the laboring aircraft bore us doggedly through the unruly air.

In Newark time was short and we were soon on a large 21st century jet liner bound for Houston Texas and an uneventful 3-1/2 hours of droning through a bright sky. We heard reports of big snows striking the northern parts but we were well clear of all that. Houston came into view. A sample is shown below ...

The Houston airport could be described as the world's biggest shopping center which also happens to accommodate visiting airplanes. Here we enjoyed a Texas-sized hamburger lunch. The burger had a pizza's circumference and a dolphin could have cavorted in the soda.

After a final swift flight to Brownsville, in a small jet, we debarked and immediately found Brother Vincent with the JW.org sign over his face exactly as shown in the previous post. We collected all our luggage and he kindly chauffeured us to our hotel in Matamoros, Mexico. The photo below shows us approaching the Mexican border.

Dan and Heather were already at the hotel and we enjoyed a light supper together. On a trip of several legs, such as this one, much could go wrong and frustrations could become oppressive, but everything clicked along beautifully. Kudos to Carol who planned and arranged this day of travel!
