I'm not making this up.
At the arrangement I was assigned to work with a brother named Ivy who owns a motor scooter. The idea of riding into Zihuatanejo Centro on the back of a scooter did not appeal to me, particularly in view of local driving customs. So I arranged to meet him in the marketplace to go with him on his study, then off he scooted and I took the bus.
Nothing against the scooter.
It's just not me.
The person he studies with is a Dentist and we called at his store-front. Apparently he is rarely busy Saturday mornings, but today he had on his face mask, working on a fellow in the dentist's chair with his mouth locked open. Would this be a convenient time for him to put his customer on hold for a half hour to study the Bible with us? Not being 100% sure the answer was yes, we merely said a brief hello, told him we understood, and moved on.
Then I called on a lady working in a furniture store ... rather, not working in a furniture store - not a customer in sight. She spoke English well and I presented the Good News brochure, showing her the questions on back. I asked her to pick one that interested her most. She chose, "How can you recognize true worship?"
I began showing her the answer and got to the part about using God's name. She said, "In my religion they tell us God's name is Jesus." I showed her Matthew 16:16, 17 where Peter identified Christ as the *son* of the living God. But what about the living God himself? What is his name? With an anxious look she said, "I don't know." I showed her "Jehovah" in Psalm 83:18. She was growing visibly intense and somewhat stressed. I explained that men may tell her many things about God but to really learn about true worship she needed to verify what God's Word says. She said she didn't have a Bible but her mother does. I recommended she borrow it to check the scriptures in the brochure. Sensing she'd heard about as much as she could absorb for today I concluded the conversation. But I look forward to returning with Carol.
At morning's end I lost my partner to a cell phone repair shop and returned to a park to meet Carol. I heard amplified speech from within an arch across the street, saw a crowd standing inside and listening, and I allowed curiosity to make me cross over to see what was going on.
I entered the building, stood for a moment not understanding anything, then looked behind me. The back walls were lined with police standing with their automatic weapons. I pondered the situation for about three thousandths of a second and decided it would be nice to put as much masonry as possible between me and this meeting, and to do so with meaningful promptitude.
Continuing on my way to meet Carol I next passed a bottler of drinking water. Well, not bottles actually, but the large jugs, but saying a juggler of water would be confusing, right?
Looks like they already received the Feb. 1st Watchtower about 'How to Enjoy Your Work.'
This evening we were guests of a couple in the congregation, David and Shelley. David has a remarkable capacity to remember information. For example we spoke about the history of Mexico. I read a volume on this subject last year and could describe the general gist and a number of highlights. David brought out names of people, places, and events along with dates as though he had aced an exam on the subject. He is a knowledgeable person and retains details thoroughly. His appetite to know and understand things is intense and he is interesting company.

What, no dog face? That won't do.
Shelley and Dave have been living here for almost ten years. After only three days in the country, Dave suffered a stroke and needed quadruple by-pass surgery. He was air lifted to Guadalajara where surgery was performed successfully. He was left with walking difficulties, use of one arm and seizures from time to time. Shelley takes good care of him. He is an MS and has parts on meetings and the cart work is so good for him. He has many return visits and studies right on the street. A fine man!
