Dog Day

I was wrong. The Hall did not clear in 11.3 seconds. To my astonishment everyone lingered after the meeting and chatted away just like there was no such thing as a Superbowl - the pole opposite of what happened last year.

I was completely gobsmacked.

The talk seemed to go down well and many approached me afterwards to provide feedback which is always appreciated. It's helpful to learn which parts touched home. Wayne and Nancy invited us for supper at Papa Loca, a sidewalk restaurant in Zihuatanejo that specializes in transforming a large baked potato into a delicious meal. That, plus a Corona, hit the spot. They also brought along Nancy's Bible student who had come to the meeting. She had been to a Memorial once but I understand this was her first regular Sunday meeting. She came with her chihuahua. I did not have my cell phone on me - the hip holster is inappropriate for the platform - so I have no photo, but the dog looked exactly like this ...

... and he made no comments, which in his case was just as well. Dogs of course are not actively encouraged to attend our meetings but they are not unwelcome when they show up. When I was a young boy our family dog once performed the amazing feat of finding my father at a Sunday meeting. He was supposed to be in the house but got out somehow and trailed off in search of us. It was a hot day without air conditioning so an emergency exit near the platform was left open for ventilation. My father was the Watchtower Reader when the dog came in that door and lay down beside his chair. This creature's ability to find us was an amazing achievement. For the duration of the Watchtower Study, when my father stood to read, the dog stood too. When my father sat down, the dog lay down again. Yes, this is an old, old story but it's a slim day for copy.

In other news, our Apple TV is not getting much exercise because the Wi-Fi signal is weak these days. With patience we can pull in a Web page, retrieve an email, or make a blog posting, but video? Forget it. Maybe we'll need a beef meeting with the rental agent. That helped last year.

The Bible student, Kerry is quite the lady. I have attended her study a number of times. She is originally from Vancouver and has had quite the life. She runs an animal shelter from her home. Presently she has 16 dogs, many cats and birds. The dog she brought is the baby. He had an injury so she could not leave him alone. The restaurant Papa Loca means Crazy Potato. It is amazing what can be done with potatoes. So delicious!
