Colima

We were up at 6:00 am and soon in a taxi to the bus station in Puerto Vallarta where we began our bus ride to Colima. The first half of the ride was along a twisting, serpentine road through the hills and mountains surrounding Banderas Bay and the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta. Many spectacular scenes would suddenly open and flash by making it pretty much impossible to capture them on camera. A few scenes, of much inferior drama, are shown below.
As noted, along the road leaving Puerto Vallarta, we passed numerous villas, and condo complexes, built on the mountainside. I do love mountainside architecture since it offers many opportunities to exploit the slopes, drops, and ledges by incorporating them cleverly into the design. of course, after a while the affluent architecture stops and the dirt poor pueblos begin.

Most of our trip was accomplished once we arrived in Manzanillo, about an hour away from Colima. Manzanillo surprised us by its size and spread. It is an ocean-side city, very well kept, with a strong tourist economy and modern neat looking buildings. Yes, they have a Walmart. We had to change buses in this place to complete our trip to Colima.

I hope to post photos of Colima tomorrow. It appears to be a photogenic city. Naturally I took a good interest in spotting the volcano as our bus approached. All seemed quiet.
